In my free time, I explored the designs of gods from a fictional religion based on human emotions and experiences - The oldest gods are Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. They are the children of a Sphinx named Death.

All of Death's children are meant to represent emotions, but not be carbon copies of them. Anger is not angry all the time, Depression is not sad all the time - they have their own personalities.

These characters share a color palette of golds, whites, and browns to illustrate their relation to one another. Their wings match their mother's and each other's.

Major inspirations come from Egyptian Mythology and Dungeons and Dragons, with their religion being developed by me for a DnD campaign I play in.

The Stages of Grief

Denial

Denial is the oldest of her siblings, being the first in the stages of grief. She is a woman with the head of a sturgeon, her scaled armor representing one shielding themself from the truth of distressing news or events.

Anger

Anger is a man with the head of water buffalo, and the largest of the siblings. He is mute, but his size speaks for him. His armor only covers his neck and forearms, showing how his bursts of recklessness have left him scarred.

Bargaining

Bargaining is an intersex person with the head of a maned lioness. She is the most rash of her siblings, with moments of immaturity when caught up in passion, but when focused holds the composure of a lawyer or judge.

Depression

Depression is a woman with the head of a bat. She is the smallest of her siblings, reflecting how one can feel insignificant when caught up in their woes. She is surprisingly kind and comforting, but has jarring moments of cruelty.

Acceptance

Acceptance is a woman with the head of a west African sheep. She is the youngest and most like the sibling's mother, Death the Sphynx. Death does not discriminate, and neither does Acceptance. She acts as a therapist who understands how to balance reality with comfort.

Death

Death is the head god of the religion that The Stages of Grief come from - she is also the mother of all 5 of them. They were born from the feathers of her wings.
